The City of Henderson’s Multigenerational Center project presented a series of challenges, including the need to remove the existing HVAC system from the first-floor mechanical space, install new structural steel and an HVAC system on the roof, modify first-floor walls and structure to create specific spaces, and undertake renovations in the gymnasium and fitness center areas.
The complexity escalated when the first-floor walls slated for demolition turned out to be structural, requiring coordination with the design team for a revised structural design without extending the project end date. The expedited schedule also demanded identifying critical scopes and implementing overtime, multiple shifts, and weekend work without compromising the project’s completion date.
As an added challenge, the facility needed to remain open during construction, necessitating strategic coordination to minimize disruptions to customer spaces. Lastly, the need for temporary AC in the gymnasium space during Nevada’s scorching outside temperatures posed an additional hurdle.
When faced with unexpected structural challenges, SHF’s general contracting expertise took center stage. We met the intricacies of the first-floor walls marked for demolition, swiftly identifying structural elements. This enabled us to seamlessly collaborate with the design team, resulting in a revised structural design that didn’t extend the project’s timeline. The demanding schedule called for meticulous planning, and our team stepped up, identifying critical scopes and embracing overtime, multiple shifts, and weekend work to ensure the project stayed on track.
We strategically coordinated shutdowns during off hours to uphold the Multigenerational Center’s uninterrupted operation. This meant that, despite the renovations, the center remained open during construction, offering continuous access to its facilities. Recognizing the need for a temporary cooling solution during the planning process, we scheduled temporary AC systems to be installed and ready before the existing infrastructure was shut down. This relieved and maintained a comfortable environment for our hardworking construction team and the center’s users. Our commitment to minimizing disruption and maximizing efficiency defined SHF’s positive impact on every aspect of the project.
The City of Henderson’s Multigenerational Center now stands as a testament to the success of our solutions. The construction period, spanning a mere 96 calendar days, underscores the efficiency and precision of our team. Notably, the facility experienced no shutdowns during business hours, a critical achievement given the center’s continuous operation. The strategic coordination of shutdowns during off hours and implementing an expedited schedule ensured the community had uninterrupted access to the center’s amenities.
The refreshed gymnasium now boasts a revitalized court and scoreboard for the NBA G League Ignite basketball team, providing an enhanced space for athletes and the community. The Multigenerational Center’s second-level fitness center, complete with custom rubber flooring and dedicated electrical for fitness equipment, exemplifies the successful fusion of functionality and aesthetics. Ultimately, SHF’s commitment to efficiency, innovation, and customer satisfaction has left a lasting mark on the City of Henderson’s Multigenerational Center.
